A wonderful “icebreaker” to break the ice in order to witness to someone is to have a “survey approach”. It is basically a questionnaire which you ask someone to ask a few questions and which will enable you to guide the conversation into spiritual things. You can download the pdf document here, print a few of them, place them on a clipboard and you are ready for one to one evangelism!

Any work for God that does not originate from God is not glorifying to the Lord. Only what comes from the Lord is God’s Work. No work for God can ever be accomplished on this earth without a continual definite prayer life. If you want to be used by God in saving sinners, or in the pulpit or wherever, if you are not a man of prayer, you cannot be a man of God. Only they who seek God’s face continually can be effective in the harvest fields and in personal or church life.

You should make time, MUCH time everyday to pray! Unlike many things, prayer is not a “one time” fill up untill you run out of power, it is a continual living and vital union in your usefulness before the Lord! It is the very KEY that determines you usefulness before and in the Lord.

Before we must learn to win souls for Christ and God’s kingdom, we must first learn to pray and have open Fellowship with the Lord. We must know God through prayer. Before we talk to any soul or person about God, we must first have talked to God about those to whom we will go. No man is greater than his prayer life. God must make the man that He will use to His glory. The man is made in the closet, in secret and earnest prayer to God.

Intercession is a form of prayer where someone “intercedes” or “stands in the gap” on behalf of someone else. Every soul winner must also be an intercessor. You must first stand before the Lord before you can stand before people. Prayer is made something that means “name and claim” or in some other circles many are even neglecting prayer by what some calls faith. But it is faith in prayer that are powerful and not faith in faith.

How do you evangelize? In prayer and through a prayerfully spirit or prayerless or in prayer that have never touched the throne of God, nor have touched your very heart. Be sure such prayer that have not changed or altered your heart will not change the hearts of those you will witness to!

“They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.

He that go forth and weep, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.” Psalm 126:5-6

THIS IS HOW YOU SHOULD BEAR YOUR SEED IN EVANGELISM!

Scriptural Methods of Evangelism

A method is an organized way of doing something. If you are to be successful in the task of evangelism, you must use Scriptural methods. Practical methods that have been proven by experience are also helpful. We will now focuses on New Testament methods of evangelism. In “The Study of the Heart” we have already looked at the the parables Jesus was using in evangelism.

NEW TESTAMENT EVANGELISM

Evangelism and its methods are recorded in God's Word, the Holy Bible. Review of the Gospels, Acts, and the Epistles reveal several basic methods of evangelism.

In New Testament times evangelism was:

BACKED BY PRAYER:

Prayer is one of the most important Scriptural methods of evangelism. As Jesus viewed the natural harvest fields that represented the spiritual harvest fields of a world lost in sin, the first thing He commanded was to pray. Jesus did not say:

-"The fields are ready for harvest, go."

-"The fields are ready for harvest, organize."

-"The fields are ready, so make plans."

-"The fields are ready, so raise funds for evangelism."

-"The fields are ready, so educate people."

-"The fields are ready, so appoint a committee to study them."

He said: "The fields are ripe unto harvest, PRAY YE . . ."

In the New Testament we learn that the early church was constantly in prayer (Acts 1:14). The first missionary journey developed from prayer (Acts 13:3). Paul insisted that the churches pray for him as he evangelized (II Thessalonians 3:1).

We need to stop depending on all we know about missions, unreached people, and ways to communicate the Gospel. These are important, but we need to concentrate more attention on the first command: "PRAY YE."

Evangelism Basics

There are certain basics we need to understand concerning evangelism. Evangelism is in no way only a human endeavor. Evangelism or to evangelize is something that God appointed. It is not merely something you learn and get familiar with. It is not merely something you study and learn some four spiritual laws or something God wants you to know. Today it is al about feeding the mind and equipping the mind and intellect. But although the mind has its part to play it should never be the dominating factor. The heart is what is missing in today’s evangelism. We need to return to the heart of true evangelism and the heart of the gospel. The heart of true evangelism is not merely man’s intellect perceiving some knowledge of God and Christ and man, no, that’s not it at all. The heart of evangelism is not about knowing some Scriptural methods and some form of presentation. The heart of true evangelism lies in the words of the Lord Jesus Christ and of Paul in John 12 and 2 Corinthians 4.

“And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. 26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honor. 27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. 28 Father, glorify thy name.John 12:23-28

“Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; 2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. 3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. 6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. 8 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; 10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. 11 For we which live are always delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. 12 So then death worketh in us, but life in you. 13 We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;14 Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you. 15 For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. 16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; 18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:1-18

Look at this: “…all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.”

This was the spirit in which the early church operated: Every thing that happened to them, every working of God in their life’s had an overflow to the world to others salvation. They operated in the grace of God! Grace abundant, overflow to the salvation of many redound to the glory of God!

Golden Calf Worship and Evangelism

...The true gospel is not man centered. The true gospel is God centered, its Christ centered, it begins with God and it ends with God. Its not about man at all. Man’s biggest problem is not his condition as such or his poverty or racial and political circumstances, or joblessness or even that he grows up poor and poverty stricken. That’s not man’s problem at all. Trying to change these things will not help man’s problem. Man has a problem beyond his own comprehension and recognition, for if he could have recognized the problem he could have come to the solution, but he didn’t. Man’s biggest problem is not crime or even sin! No, hear me out; man’s biggest problem is God! You see there is a view today of “God” that needs to be addressed. Everybody uses “him” or “it” to get along. Today’s “god” is like a “sugar daddy” someone everybody is in love with, a “good force” one that understands them and loves them no matter what. There is the problem. We have a “god” view of one that pleases everybody and offends no one. He is some impersonal identity who just loves to bless man and make them happy. No one like a God who is a Personality. If we see Him as a Person we must face Him.
