How then can man be justified with God?
“How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman? Behold even to the moon, and it shineth not; yea, the stars are not pure in his sight. How much less man, that is a worm? and the son of man, which is a worm?” (Job 25:4-6) See also (Job 14:4) and (Job 15:14-16)
This is one of the central truths of the Bible about man. It is the testimony of God in relationship with the corruptness of the heart and is here referred to by men that knew from the dealings of God to man that:
1. God is Holy and Pure and Righteous. Not even the heavens are clean before Him how much less man. This is the testimony of all God to all men. The Law was given to reflect the standard of God’s Holiness and righteousness, as if God said: “If you want to come near Me and desire acceptance with Me then meet with Me on this terms, and all those who do not is under the curse of the Law for those who breaks it!” God’s Law show God’s moral cleanness, man’s lawlessness shows his moral uncleanness!
2. The total corruptness of man and his inability to do good or become clean out of his own merit. All men are unclean before the Lord God; they are morally defiled in heart, in mind and in walk. That is why the very best that man can bring forth is like filthy rags and not acceptable to God. The Old Testament teach us that man must first be cleansed or made fit to be accepted by God and that not by anything that comes from man.
The question is still one that holds weight: “How then can a man be just before God?” Seeing that he is unclean and defiled and God is Holy and cannot stand unholiness and sin, how shall this man be justified or set right before God. This refers to a legal aspect of man, when man will stand before the Lord God (and all will stand before Him) in the highest court and God would search his life for any wrong, for any defiance and lawless act, for any disobedience to the revealed will and law of God, how shall man surpass that scrutiny and judgment? In the light of what man is by nature, man’s best even will not be able to justify or bring man to a standing before the Lord God, when man shall be put in the balances, man’s best will not be enough to even level the weight of uncleanness that is residing in man’s heart and nature! And why? Because the uncleanness that resides n the heart of man defiles man’s very best that he may offer or bring forth!
Fact is that man is not capable of any good. Also, man is by nature children of wrath. This testimony testifies to the face of every man. The problem is that man is a sinner before he sins, even from his mother’s womb he is a sinner, the liar did not become a liar the day he lied, he told lies because he is a liar from birth, man doesn’t become corrupted and unclean somewhere in his life or by some deed in his life, man is corrupt and unclean from his birth! Man has never stop sinning and every prayer that he prayed and every righteous act of charity he may do and everything that may be righteous and worthy are defiled in man by man’s corrupt nature and heart. It is the rottenness that corrupts the good in any bag. In the light of all that man is and all who God is “how then shall man be just with God” legally or on legal terms the day man will be brought to account or when he must stand before the Lord (as Job demanded to be brought to trial for his condition) to be weight in the balances? How?
However this testimony is not given about Jesus the Son of Mary (man) the Son of God (referred to more than 50 times in the New Testament, Jesus also referred to Himself as the Son of God). Jesus was not born like any other man, even thou He was born from a woman, He was not defiled by man nor did he inherit man’s sinfulness. He was formed in the womb of Mary and incarnated (of a life that had pre-existence) from God to put on humanly form and to partake in flesh and blood so to through partaking in humanity and flesh and blood to become the Head of a new race through whom we may be cleansed from our sin. He partake flesh and blood so that we may partake of divine salvation which was wrought in Jesus the Messiah, son of Mary (son of man), the Son of God. He lived about a life of 33 years in total obedience and to every demand the Law was making and fulfil the Law in all areas, a life of absolute obedience and righteousness, no sin was found in Him and no unrighteousness, Holy and blameless, clean and undefiled, by which He offered His Life as the Son of Mary (son of man) as a legal transaction in the highest court as a complete ransom through which He could justify sinful man to on the basis of His righteousness and justification justify all those who come to God through Him! He was and is the only One that gave His perfect life, there was no other that could present themselves to God because of their sin, not even Mohammed could because even he was a sinner in mercy, but the Messiah Jesus, was sinless, blameless righteous, holy, undefiled, pure OFFERED His life and His obedience and His righteousness and His holiness and merit as a ransom for man’s sinful life so that man could come into acceptance with God and may be just before the Lord God when He would judge man and place him in the balance, the Life and righteousness of Christ would outweigh that of man. How then shall man be just with God? By none other than Jesus the Messiah,
“God made made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (2 Cor 5:21)
It is now through faith in the merit of Christ that man can be justified before God and find peace with God. This is the only basis of righteousness with God that God accepts. Out of the works of the Law shall no man be justified in His sight!
